About me

My Philosophy

“Some lawyers will look up the law and tell you what it is. I believe a lawyer can be more than that. A lawyer should be able to tell you what the law is, but also what the law could be. My philosophy is simple: I don’t want to apply the law; I want to shape it.”

My Lawyer Credentials

I studied law at Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship. At Oxford, I won numerous prizes and awards, including several distinctions for my oral advocacy skills. I worked as a corporate tax lawyer in New York City with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. After spending time clerking at the Supreme Court of Canada, I quickly developed a passion for litigation and courtroom advocacy. This passion, and my love of mountains and the outdoors, brought me to the Yukon. I worked for the Yukon Legal Services Society before starting my own practice.

Throughout the years, I have represented clients in various litigation contexts at all levels of courts. I routinely appear in the Courts of Appeal across the country and Supreme Court of Canada. In R. v. Larue, Justice Abella took the unusual step of congratulating me for my advocacy during the hearing.

In 2021, I authored the book “Dangerous Offender Law” published with LexisNexis. The book is a guide to one of the most complex areas of Criminal Law.

I am not just a lawyer

I graduated top student in the Faculty of Science of McGill University, finishing most mathematics PhD courses during my undergraduate degree. I started a PhD in Mathematics/String Theory at Oxford University, before switching to law. I dabbled in business consulting with McKinsey & Co. I also had a stint as field officer in war zones, where I attempted to initiate communications and broker deals between armed rebel groups and governments.

Courts are not my only passion. I have made Whitehorse and the Yukon my home because of its amazing backcountry. The Yukon is an endless source of mountaineering, skiing, rock-climbing, white water paddling, hiking and trail running… Here in the Yukon, I summited Mount Logan, paddled the Yukon River Quest, ran the Reckless Raven and biked the Klondike International Bike Relay.
