Practice Areas

Please note that I routinely accept cases from the Yukon, British Columbia, and Quebec.

I will also consider cases in other jurisdictions depending on their nature.

Appellate Litigation

Criminal and civil appeals: An appeal is a delicate and difficult process. You need to craft bullet-proof arguments carefully and diligently, since you will often only get one crack at the whip. I have a proven track record of success on appeals.

Interest group advocacy: If your organization wants to intervene in the Supreme Court of Canada or elsewhere, I can make that happen. I have represented a number of different interest groups.

Criminal Litigation

I have extensive experience in trial and appellate representation of individuals facing anything from murder charges to drug charges. I have cross-examined numerous experts, including in the areas of psychiatry, pathology, blood spatter analysis, ballistics, toxicology and drug analysis. I bring my background in mathematics and science to bear when I cross-examine expert witnesses, challenging them on assumptions and concepts they sometimes take for granted.

In addition, I have developed a specialty in defending offenders whom the Crown has attempted to designate as either dangerous offender or long-term offenders, at all levels of courts. If you need a lawyer to defend yourself against a dangerous offender application, or to appeal such a designation, please contact me.
